Duty Rates!!!

Posted by Mitchells Wine 0 Comments

We all have a little moan about prices, inflations on the up, wages remaining low etc etc However on the booze trade were more to moan than most, why well we just need a fairer duty on wine, we need lower taxation, the beer industry won concessions last time round with a one penny pint reduction at the budget and spirits were frozen but wine went up yet again.

The Botanical Gardens

Posted by Mitchells Wine 0 Comments

I feel very lucky to now live next door to the Botanical Gardens, I walked through them the other Sunday on a wonderful autumnal day. These glorious gardens cover 19 acres first opened in 1836, originally designed by Robert Marnock in the Gardenesque style. The site now has 15 different gardens with plants from all over the world many of which are in the restored curvilinear glass pavilion, There's even a fossilised tree within the grounds.

I've always been a mad Wednesdayite to the extent of watching pre-season friendly's, well what a storming night last month was when Glasgow rangers came to Hillsborough, what great support and they certainly enjoy a drink!

Sheffield Show

Posted by Mitchells Wine 0 Comments

Being Born at Meadowhead meant Graves Park has and always will be a great attraction to me, it began back in 1925 when 112 acres including Norton Hall were purchased on behalf of Sheffield Voluntary Hospital from Bernard Firth and In the same year 154 acres were added by Alderman J.G.Graves and presented to the city as a public park to be known as Graves Park. I remember Graves for its Whitsuntide singing and parades but it was more famous for the Sheffield Show with its various attractions, esp

Well autumn is well and truly here, the clocks have gone back, dark nights and cold mornings, what do we have to look forward to. Well that glass of Rose on the patio has gone out of the window, even if it wasn't the best summer ever, what can we enjoy during the winter months.

Spanish Wines

Posted by Mitchells Wine 0 Comments

As a massive lover of Spanish wine I've always looked for an alternative to Rioja. Museum Real Reserva is from Cigales located on the banks of the river Pisuerga, in the heart of Castilla Y Leon. This is an up an coming wine region was awarded it D.O status in 1991. What I love about the wine is its from 70 year old vines, it is so concentrated, also its owned by El Coto who in turn make fabulous Rioja.

El Coto

Posted by Mitchells Wine 0 Comments

There is no better feeling than when you come across a winery where the wine gives you the WOW factor. Some twenty odd years ago I came across the wine of El Coto based in Rioja, Spain which is a premium red wine region. El Coto reds which are Tempranilo grape are the preferred Crianza of the Spanish.
