Domaine Bonnard Pouilly Fume
Pouilly-Fumé - a dry white wine made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes - is one of the Loire Valley's most respected wines. It is rivaled only by Sancerre, just across the Loire River, and perhaps Vouvray. Pouilly-Fumé's name is made up of two parts. 'Pouilly' is short for Pouilly-sur-Loire, the village from which these wines come. 'Fume' is short for Blanc Fumé, which is the local nickname for Sauvignon Blanc. It is sometimes understandably confused with Pouilly-Fuisse (the wine-based Chardonnay of southern Burgundy).
A fresh, dry, elegant wine with classic Loire / Old World Sauvignon Blanc characteristics of citrus and gooseberry flavours, with a classic grassy / nettly nose, where one even finds a little liquorice. The classic flintiness / gunsmoke of Pouilly-Fumé can also be found on the palate.
