Spanish Wines

As a massive lover of Spanish wine I've always looked for an alternative to Rioja. Museum Real Reserva is from Cigales located on the banks of the river Pisuerga, in the heart of Castilla Y Leon. This is an up an coming wine region was awarded it D.O status in 1991. What I love about the wine is its from 70 year old vines, it is so concentrated, also its owned by El Coto who in turn make fabulous Rioja.

I'm always going on about Miguel Torres but he's ventured out of the Penedes region to Ribero Del Duero and created Celeste Crianza. The Vineyards are at 895 metres above sea level from which you can almost touch the stars, an intense blackberry colour, spicy with peppery hints, made from Tempranillo but in Duero it's called Tinto Fino. Serve at 16-17C.

Finally we are struggling to sell wines from Toro, but I will persevere. These are rugged reds, again Tempranillo, ripe blackberry & plum characters. Toro is a rapidly emerging region who sees their neighbour Ribero Del Duero as a role model. Old gnarled bush trained vines, the white wines of Malvasia and Verdejo grapes give a fresh wine similar to their other neighbours Rueda.

Enjoy John
