Dows 2000 Vintage Port in 75cl bottles. As Dow’s said “Our decision to declare the 2000 Vintage was not difficult. The wine speaks for itself; it is remarkably concentrated, with a rich ‘velvet’ structure backed by ripe tannins.”

Dow’s Port is one of the most famous names in the Port trade and today is owned and managed by the fifth generation of the Symington family. The family, whose experience dates back over 100 years, supervises all the vineyards, winemaking and ageing of this wine. Dows acquired Quinta Senhora da Ribeira and Quinta do Bomfim in 1890 and 1896 respectively which made it one of the first Port firms to invest in their own premium vineyards.

Dows Vintage Ports are only produced or ‘declared’ in years of exceptional quality and represent a very small percentage (2 – 3%) of total Port production. The backbone of Dows Vintage Port is drawn from the companies’ finest vineyards, Quinta do Bomfim and Senhora da Riberia, each property contributing to the wines unique character and class. Aged in wood for approximately 2 years and bottled unfiltered, Dow’s Vintage Ports are considered to be amongst the finest Vintage Ports produced. These fine wines can be enjoyed young and vibrant or allowed to aged for many years in bottle, developing their very own style, very different from all wood aged Ports.

The 2000 vintage will be remembered for the immense concentration of its wines and the unusually small quantities that were produced.

Dows 2000 Vintage Port will require decanting.

Dow’s 2000 Vintage has a deep ruby colour. On the nose the wine is intensely aromatic with excellent fruit aromas of dark plums and cassis. On the palate showing the typical Dow flavours of liquorice and spices combined with ripe dark fruit giving it a marvellous complexity. Showing great depth and structure the wine finishes with firm bold tannins and a typical peppery dryness.
