Glenallachie 10 Year Chinquaipin Oak Limited Release

I am delighted confirm that Billy has finished work on the latest of our cask maturation releases and these are now ready to bottle, in Billy’s 50th anniversary year as a blender it’s fitting that this release focuses on one of Billy’s key skills.. The art of cask management. This bottling revisits the influence of Oak; the species, the woodland climate, the coopering and toasting. Each of which impacts on the spirit and creates a unique yet subtle flavour journey. Along with old favourites from the Ozarks and Toulouse it is incredibly exciting that we can add something very close to our hearts – Scottish Oak! Due to the challenging climate in Scotland it is exceptionally difficult to grow the quality of oak required for successful whisky maturation; there are not enough trees, they are knotty and challenging to mill with a lot of waste, they require all the coopers’ experience to work the timber into a quality cask.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Bursting with orange zest, heather honey and pecan, with notes of butterscotch, nutmeg and liquorice.

Palate: Lashings of cinnamon, barley sugar and toasted biscuits, followed by rose hips, orange peel and heather honey.
