Kalos Yoli Malbec

Kalos Wines is a project that pays tribute to Calixto, the Losada family's grandfather. That is why the inspiration for the names of the wines comes from stories related to the life of the grandfather.

The name Calixto is of Greek origin and comes from the word Kalos which means “something of great beauty.” This is how Malbec Gran Reserva Kalos Cru was born, inspired by his person, elegance, presence and long memory.

59 BRIDES are those that grandfather he claimed to have had during his youth. The 59N Classic Malbec brings together all of them, with the best grapes from Maipu and Altamira.

YOLI by Kalos, is the wife of Calixto, the star of the family. Yolanda is the chosen one, the woman with the that the grandfather shared all his years of life and formed his family. A reserved Blend that interprets it: strong, kind and singular.

Vineyards

20yo vines grown: Malbec Altamira, San Carlos Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot Barrancas, Maipú, Mendoza.

Malbec grown at 1150m above sea level, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot 759m above sea level.

Soils are stony for the Malbec and calcareous in small areas.  For the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot they are deep, alluvial and stony.

Vinification

45% Malbec 35% Cabernet Franc 20% Petit Verdot

Type of maceration: Malbec between the 2nd and 3rd week of April, Petit Verdot between the 1st and 2nd week of April, Cabernet Franc between the 3rd and 4th week of March. Total maceration time between 15 and 20 days. Fermentation temperature is between 20 and 25°C with peaks of 28°C

The Malbec element of the wine is aged 12 months in a combination of French & American oak.

Tasting Notes

This Blend has an intense red colour with violet hues. On the nose, the aromas are reminiscent of red fruits, blackberries, cassis, red pepper, spices and plums with a delicate touch of vanilla and chocolate, well integrated. In the mouth it is round and velvety, very persistent, with ripe and sweet tannins. Good volume and with a long and elegant finish. This specimen is characterized by its typical complexity, product of the combination of three varietals with a lot of character.
