Finca La Emperatriz Rioja Reserva
Finca la Emperatriz is a historic winery. Its name comes from the French Empress Eugenia of Montijo, wife of Napoleon III, who was the owner of the vineyard in the late nineteenth century. Finca La Emperatriz Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo (94%) with a small proportion of ,Grenache (3%), Viura (2%) and Graciano (1%), all typical varieties of La Rioja.
The grapes come from old vines over 60 years old, planted on a white rocky soil with a sandy loam surface.
A soil with good drainage, and the white colour of the stone helps facilitate a greater insolation of grapes. A poor, hard ground, which gives the wines a personal elegance and mineral nuances.
The vineyard is planted at 570 metres, with a continental climate tempered by the influence of the Cantabrian Sea.
The harvest is done manually. The process begins with fermentation, which occurs at a controlled temperature of 23 degrees before a soft maceration for 8 days.
Finca La Emperatriz Reserva is aged in American oak barrels (70%) and French oak barrels (30%) for more than 20 months.
An elegant red wine, a fresh and complex Rioja.
On the palate it is intense, powerful, with a good acidity, very polished and round tannins, fruity and slightly spicy towards the end.
